Andrzej Jagodziński Trio & Agnieszka Wilczyńska / "Polish Music"

Polish jazz legend Andrzej Jagodziński will be the star of the next installment of the Stars with Sinfonietta series. The outstanding pianist and improviser will perform with his band, featuring Adam Cegielski on double bass and Czesław Bartkowski on drums. Singer Agnieszka Wilczyńska will also make a guest appearance on stage. The artists, together with Sinfonietta Cracovia, will join forces in a project that originally intertwines the traditions of folk, classical, and jazz music, revealing their common sources. The Polish Music project is the next stage in the stylistic explorations of Andrzej Jagodziński's Trio. The band's previous projects were based on reinterpretations of canonical works of classical music, including compositions by F. Chopin and L. van Beethoven, which became starting points for free improvisation. This time, the perspective is reversed: material derived from folk music and jazz takes on elaborate, classical forms. The compositional techniques used, such as thematic transformations, motivic work, and counterpoint, place the works in the realm of classical music, while improvisation remains an essential element of the narrative, preserving the jazz idiom. The Sinfonietta Cracovia orchestra will be conducted by maestro Przemysław Zych.
