About
The star of this year's edition of the Stars with Sinfonietta series will be Venezuelan-born violin virtuoso Giovanni Guzzo. The artist will perform with Sinfonietta Cracovia in a dual role – as soloist and conductor.
The concert program is a kind of study of the evolution of classicism, combining works with common stylistic sources but differing aesthetic contexts. Gaetano Brunetti's Symphony in G minor No. 22 is an example of the expressive classicism of the second half of the 18th century, with clear influences from the Sturm und Drang movement. It contrasts with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Symphony No. 29 in A major, KV 201, considered one of the first masterpieces of classical symphonic music.
Alongside the works of 18th-century masters, the concert will also feature music by Piotr Moss, a contemporary composer who consciously and creatively engages in dialogue with the classical heritage. In Variations sur un thème de Mozart, Moss draws on a well-known Mozart theme, treating it not as a relic of the past, but as a starting point for further transformations.
The centerpiece of the program will be Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in D minor, an early work in which the characteristics of the composer's developing individual style are already evident. In this piece, Giovanni Guzzo will showcase the unique sound of his violin, built in 1759 by one of the most outstanding makers of the Neapolitan school of violin making, Gennaro Gagliano.
