London Calling vol. 2

Searching for the balance between tradition and modernity, sound and silence, and Eastern and Western music outlines the range of emotions that make up the programme of another edition of the London Calling project. The postindustrial space of Teatr Łaźnia Nowa will host the performances of pieces by English composers (Maw, Woolrich), the Japanese master Tōru Takemitsu, and the world premiere of Quintetto per archi no. 2 (which is the new version of String Quintet in Memory of Krzysztof Penderecki) composed by Joanna Wnuk-Nazarowa.

In 2024, Sinfonietta Cracovia uncovers for the Cracow audiences new territories of music, alongside the performers of the famed London Sinfonietta. Three concerts in the Sinfonietta Nova series this year will be not only encounters with the British musicians, but also an encounter with the new repertoire: the music of composers from the UK, the US, as well as surprising and trance-inducing sound of strings.

The curator of the Sinfonietta Nova series in 2024 is Andrew Burke, head of the London Sinfonietta, and during the three concerts (on 15 Feb, 7 Apr, and 20 Oct), leaders of the London orchestra will appear with Sinfonietta Cracovia in a joint performance.

The co-organiser of the concert is Teatr Łaźnia Nowa.
