About
The unforgettable sound of the Maestro of contemporary music Krzysztof Penderecki performed by one of his favoured orchestras. A suite featuring themes from memorable offerings of the American cinema (including the emotive music from Tom Ford’s A Single Man), as well as the world premiere of a brand new piece commissioned by Sinfonietta Cracovia to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
The programme of the Anniversary Gala will be the culmination of an entire year of musical thrills and enjoyment experienced throughout the celebrations of the orchestra’s 30th anniversary: from small, intimate concerts to grand symphony performances on numerous stages in Krakow. This time we will meet at the ICE Krakow Congress Centre, and the soloists featured alongside Sinfonietta will include extraordinary musicians: Szymon Nehring (piano) and Andrzej Ciepliński (clarinet). The first part of the concert, showcasing various faces of Krzysztof Penderecki’s music, will be conducted by Katarzyna Tomala-Jedynak, artistic director of Sinfonietta Cracovia. The second part of the performance will consist of the music of Abel Korzeniowski, conducted by the composer himself.
There is also the nostalgic context to the evening which will evoke the maestro-student relationship of the two composers. Abel Korzeniowski studied composition at the Music Academy in Krakow under Krzysztof Penderecki, and later on he would conduct the performances of his teacher’s music. Years later, we will have the opportunity to once again enjoy the encounter of these two musical worlds.
