About
The repertoire of this concert is a cross-section of the Polish music of the 20th and 21st century. It is also a programme tailored for the line-up and the potential of Sinfonietta Cracovia. Three pieces in which the sound of the string orchestra sparkles with varied colours and sounds of the contemporary world.
Firstly, the works of Mieczysław Weinberg and Szymon Laks, constitute an expressive and at the same time melancholic record of turbulent fates of the artists with Jewish background, emigrants and eminent composers. The Polish premiere performance of Weinberg’s symphony will be also an occasion to remind Polish music lovers of the artist’s output.
Whereas the composition of Ewa Fabiańska-Jelińska is a piece written as part of the Composer Commissions, created a decade ago and prompted by spiritual inspirations (the first performances of the piece were conducted by Agnieszka Duczmal). During the concert on 16 March, which will be held in a historical space of Celestat, surrounded by Strzelecki Park at 16 Lubicz Street in Krakow, the orchestra will be led by its first conductor and artistic director of Sinfonietta Cracovia, Katarzyna Tomala-Jedynak.
