About
Could a concert of new music performed at the heart of the Nowa Huta district make us feel like we are in the very centre of the universe? Yes—according to the title of the piece by British composer Edmund Finnis that will constitute the finale of the London Calling III concert. It will be the third edition of our musical meeting in which the Sinfonietta Cracovia musicians will join forces with their sister London Sinfonietta, one of the leading ensembles specialising in new music.
The programme will feature not one but two premieres: we will start the evening with the premiere of Sinfonietta concertante for wind quintet and string orchestra commissioned by Sinfonietta Cracovia from Piotr Górecki, Polish-American composer who combines his classical inspirations with innovative solutions in terms of composing. The credit for the unique sound of this part of the concert will go also to the soloists from the legendary Krakow Wind Quintet. The Polish premiere will be the Cello concerto by an Americal composer David Gomper, featuring the soloist Tim Gill, leader of the London cellos (both in the London Sinfonietta and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra). Katarzyna Tomala-Jedynak, Sinfonietta Cracovia’s first conductor and artistic director, will be in charge of the overall artistic shape of the evening.
Also on 20 October, after the concert, there will be an open meeting with the composers for the audience wishing to see and listen to Mikołaj Piotr Górecki and David Gompper in conversation. More information coming soon.
